Kayf!!!!!

we just got the music for this today. so hard D:

Bernstein is so much fun to watch. I truly appreciate conductors who feel the music along with the orchestra and are not just giving downbeats (like my wind ensemble director).

the reason he put in artificial happiness in the end is because that is how he was living. living under Stalin in Russia. that was how he felt all of the time.

Yea, when i listened to this, i heard randomly happy moments, and i was like wtf? Then i remembered what this piece was about and i was like "OH YEAAAA. I GET IT!" lol.

soo.. beautiful *wipes tear*

Totally artificial happiness. It's so awesome. Forced rejoice.

ive seen a leftie before, it can b either way... but generally right, of course

lol James Horner stole this for the theme to TROY

2:54 is my favorite part of the entire piece... It's so majestic... and... well... Shostakovich XD

once you conduct the NY Phil, you can pick your own tempo.

The conductor said that at all state lol.

@Supernovae04 because its soooooooo good

If you go REALLY fast, it still has the sense of sarcasm though. Its like an artificial happiness in the end.

Nice... smokin low brass.. <3

amazing.

string players always hold their bows in their right hand, regardless of their dominance.

haha whoops i left out seen/ heard in my sentence, I was not in all state I just watched. I play the violin with the arlington high symphony, and we are playing this movement for UIL. I didn't try out all state mostly because I couldn't even get the violin excerpt near recognizable, the fiorillo that is. The concert was very amazing though, Congrats on being in the All state Symphony! Working with Mr. Zander must have been great!

i was a bass player for tmea :) what instrument were you?

heeeyyyyy, i was in tmea too on saturday :)). who are you, and what instrument?

BTFI all the way.

@Arodang B.T.F.I.

The only time I have actually performed like that (eighthNote=176) was at the TMEA Symphony concert last weekend, quite honestly I like both. It just seems that to many conductors don't like it. They are performing for the audience who want to hear triumph, at the expense of the composers sarcasm.

How about using multiple exclamation marks, is that okay?

A really good performance. Although I can barely stand to hear the ending played that fast. It's supposed to be eighth note equals 176, not quarter note
